009 Sound System was a Bristol electronic collective that surfaced in the early 2000s. Their sound pulled from dubstep, hip-hop, and techno, built around Thekla's keyboards and synthesizers, MC GQ's vocals, and DJ Hype's mixing. The track 'Born To Be Wasted' from their 2006 debut mixtape became a defining hit, an anthem of indulgence that caught attention.

They put out three studio albums, 'Born to Be Wasted' in 2006, 'Warrior Sound' in 2008, and 'The Third Wave' in 2011, along with various mixtapes. Songs like 'Dreamscape', 'With a Spirit', and 'Holiday (So High)' carried their hedonistic themes and energetic beats. Their live shows were known for being flamboyant, with dancers and pyrotechnics, which drew some criticism alongside their lyrics about excess.

The group's run was relatively brief, but their music, particularly that early mixtape work, found an audience in the underground electronic scene. Tracks such as 'Powerstation' and 'Shine Down' kept circulating, leaving a catalog that resonated with fans of that specific, unapologetic Bristol sound.
