The Dutch band 040 formed in Rotterdam in the early 2000s, with Hooiberg on vocals and guitar, Ramon la Rose on bass and keyboards, and Wilco Westerduin on drums. They put out a self-titled debut album in 2004, and two years later their second album, Dreams, gave them a wider audience. The title track, 'Dreams,' became a hit for them.
Their music leaned into dream pop with atmospheric melodies and introspective lyrics, often touching on themes of longing and personal experience.
040 kept recording into the 2020s, with their final album Endless arriving in 2020. They never really chased a polished sound, letting their songs drift and linger instead.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
