10cc formed in Manchester in 1972 with Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Lol Creme, and Kevin Godley. Their self-titled debut album came out the next year with singles like 'Donna' and 'Rubber Bullets,' and they followed it with 1974's 'Sheet Music.' The band's name supposedly came from the volume knob on a mixing console.
In 1975, they released 'I'm Not in Love,' which became their most recognizable song. It had a complex arrangement with multiple vocalists and lyrics that left room for interpretation. Other tracks from around that time include 'Silly Love' and 'Art For Arts Sake.'
Godley and Creme left in 1976, and Stewart and Gouldman carried on as a duo. They put out albums like 'Deceptive Bends' in 1977 and 'Ten Out of Ten' in 1981. The band reunited briefly in the 1990s for touring and a live album.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
