Archive material and source history
100 Folk Celsius formed in 1991 in Szolnok, Hungary, with vocalist and guitarist Tibor "Tyutyu" Tátrai, bassist Gábor "Grobó" Kiss, drummer Zsolt "Csöpi" Petőfi, and violinist Katalin "Katica" Oláh. Their debut album came out in 1993, mixing traditional Hungarian folk with punk rock. The band's third album, "A Nagy Ho-Ho-Horgász" from 1996, gave them a national hit with its title track about a clumsy fisherman. Other songs like "Altató" and "Angyalok És Boszorkák" show their range.
Their lineup grew to include guitarist Attila "Kabaré" Kovács and keyboardist Miklós "Mickey" Herczku. They kept releasing albums through the 2000s, including "Tintaló" in 1998 and "Aludj, kicsi lány" in 2007. Some critics questioned whether their approach trivialized folk traditions, but they stuck with their sound and sometimes worked social themes into songs like "Csak Az A Fontos."
They won a Fonogram Award for Best Folk Ensemble in 1998. Tracks such as "Dalom A Szél" and "Drága Otthon" reflect their blend of fiddle-driven melodies and rock energy, which helped shape a folk-punk scene in Hungary.
