100 Heróis formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1980 with Marcelo D2 and Pedro Luís on vocals, Alexandre Kassin on guitar, Beto Cazes on bass, and Marcelo Lobato on drums. Their sound mixed samba, reggae, and punk, and their lyrics often touched on social and political issues in Brazil during that decade.
Their 1984 single "Agazueira" became a hit, addressing racial discrimination in Brazilian society. Other songs like "Amor Covarde" and "Biribi" appeared in their catalog alongside albums such as 1982's self-titled debut, 1984's Guerra ao Terror, and 1986's Ouça o Que Eu Digo.
Their work continued to engage with protest themes through the late 1980s with releases like 1988's Toca o Terror.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
