1000 Voltes formed in São Paulo in 1981, with Marcelo Nova on vocals, Fernando Magalhães on guitar, Luiz Carlini on bass, and Beto Lee on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out the following year, featuring the track "Você." That song became something of an anthem for Brazilian youth in the early 80s, with its straightforward rock energy and socially conscious lyrics. The band's live shows were known for their raw intensity.
They released several more albums through the 80s and into the 90s, including "Pra Não Dizer Que Não Falei das Flores," "A Última Cruzada," and "Coração do Mundo." Their music pulled from rock and punk, but with a distinctly Brazilian feel. Nova's outspoken nature and the band's political themes sometimes put them at odds with authorities, leading to occasional censorship and performance bans.
The original lineup dissolved in 1997 after some internal conflicts. They reunited briefly in 2013 for a special concert, with Nova remaining the central figure. While their active recording years were relatively concentrated, songs like "Você" have kept their name alive in Brazilian rock circles.
