11 Of The 9 formed in Florianópolis in 1996 with Thiago Fragoso on vocals and guitar, Alexandre Basa on bass and vocals, Edgard Peixoto on percussion, Carlos Pazetto on drums, and Rodrigo Tavares on guitar and vocals. Their sound mixed rock, pop, reggae, and Brazilian rhythms without settling into one category.
Their debut album 'Agora Eu Quero Sorrir' came out in 2000, and its title track became a hit that pushed them to national attention. They followed it with self-titled and live albums in 2002 and 2004. Rodrigo Tavares left the band in 2006, and they continued as a quartet while dealing with a legal dispute with their record label that paused their recording for a while.
They kept releasing music, including '11 Of The 9 - Rock Popular Brasileiro' in 2006 and a compilation called '10 Anos' in 2010. Songs like 'Eu Tô Fazendo a Minha Parte' and 'Agora Eu Quero Sorrir' stayed in rotation. The current lineup still has Fragoso, Basa, Peixoto, and Pazetto.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
