123 & Jah formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1995, with founding members Chico Aquino on guitar and vocals, Alexandre Gomes on percussion, and Diego Moura on bass. Their name references these three members. They released their self-titled debut album in 1996, which included the track "Coelho Na Lua."
Their lyrics often addressed social issues like poverty and political corruption, which sometimes drew criticism. They continued to release albums, including "Samba Rock Reggae" in 1999 and "Nação Bahia" in 2001.
They toured in Europe, North America, and South America. Later albums included "Bomba" in 2014 and "Evolução" in 2017.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
