150 Bears formed in Tokyo in 1994, drawing from Japanese folk and electronica. Their name came from the bears found in Japan. The band included vocalist Meiga Mah, guitarist Nobuyuki Takeuchi, bassist Jun Shirota, and drummer Takahiro Fukui. They released their first album, "Hoshizora no Shita ni," in 1996.
Their music mixed haunting vocals, dissonant guitar, and atmospheric electronics, which some listeners found difficult. The song "Meiga Mah" reflects their style. They put out albums like "Yume no Ato" in 1998 and "Yukidoke no Asa" in 2000 before taking a break.
After reuniting in 2009, they released "Ima" in 2012 with a more polished sound. Later albums included "Hikari no Hate" in 2015 and "Sekai wo Kaeru Kotoba" in 2019. Their experimental approach influenced other musicians in Japan.
