16 Beats formed in São Paulo in 2005, with Pedro Qualy on vocals, Felipe Novaes on guitar, Henrique Almeida on bass, and Gui Abreu on drums. Their debut album 'Abro Os Olhos' came out in 2008, and the title track became a hit in Brazil. The song 'Abro Os Olhos' and others like 'Diante De Ti' and 'Me Aviva' show the band's focus on lyrics that often touch on social themes.
After their first album's success, they released 'Quem Somos Nós' in 2011. Felipe Novaes left the band in 2013, and Fernando Anitelli joined as guitarist. Their music mixes rock and pop with Brazilian rhythms, and they've put out several more albums including 'Singular' in 2014, 'Aurora' in 2018, and 'Impermanência' in 2022.
Their songs sometimes draw attention for addressing political or social issues, which has led to both support and criticism over time. The band continues with Qualy, Almeida, Abreu, and Anitelli, writing music that connects with listeners through its straightforward melodies and thoughtful words.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
