The 1910 Fruitgum Company was a bubblegum pop group that formed in New York City in 1967. The original lineup included Joe Galdo on vocals, Frank Jeckell on drums, Mark Gutkowski on bass, and Rick Zehringer on guitar. Their name had that odd, memorable quality that fit right into the late '60s scene.

They had their first big hit with "Simon Says," which became a chart-topper and established their sound. That led to a run of singles like "1, 2, 3, Red Light," "Indian Giver," and "Goody Goody Gumdrops." Another one, "May I Take A Giant Step (Into Your Heart)," stayed on the radio for a while and became one of their more enduring tracks.

They put out a few albums, including their self-titled debut in 1968, "Secondly" in 1969, and "Indian Giver" in 1971. The band dealt with some internal friction and lineup changes over time, with members like Paul Tesluk and Ken Zehringer also appearing. By the early '70s, their moment had largely passed, but those singles still turn up on oldies stations and playlists.
