Archive material and source history
199X was a Los Angeles alternative rock band that formed in the early 1990s. The group included Matt Cohen on vocals and guitar, John Wyley on bass, Dave Glasser on drums, and Todd Trent on guitar. They released their debut album 'Catalyst' in 1994.
That album's lead single 'Gillette (The Best a Man Can Get)' became their breakthrough track. The song's title referenced the advertising slogan, which led to some trademark issues that were eventually resolved through licensing.
After 'Catalyst,' the band put out several more albums including 'Imperfect' in 1996, 'Epoch' in 1998, and 'Rise' in 2002. They released a compilation called 'Anthology' in 2010 before dissolving sometime in the early 2000s.
