1MS formed in Brazil during the mid-1990s as a quartet. The name is an acronym for "Um Mais Som," which translates to "One More Sound." The original lineup included Felipe Venâncio on vocals and guitar, Alex Meirelles on guitar, Marcelo Vasconcelos on bass, and Tom Alves on drums.
Their debut album, "Um Mais Som," came out in 1996. They followed it with other records like "1MS" in 1998, "Ao Vivo" in 2001, and "Oxigênio" in 2004.
The band's sound mixed pop, rock, and Brazilian rhythms, which made it hard to categorize early on. They faced some financial struggles and had trouble booking shows at first. Over time, the lineup changed, but those four original members remained the core of the group.
