The band 10cc formed in 1972 when Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley, and Lol Crème came together from earlier groups like The Mindbenders and Hotlegs. Their name was a deliberately provocative joke about male anatomy. They found quick success with singles like "Donna" and "Rubber Bullets" from their self-titled debut album.
Their 1975 album The Original Soundtrack contained "I'm Not in Love," a lush studio experiment that became one of their biggest hits. Around the same period they recorded "Always," which would become another enduring track. The band's sound mixed pop craftsmanship with a certain dry wit and studio sophistication.
In 1976, Godley and Crème left to pursue their own projects, leaving Stewart and Gouldman to continue with new members. The band carried on through the late 1970s and early 1980s with albums like Deceptive Bends and Bloody Tourists before eventually winding down. They've reunited periodically for tours in the decades since.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
