2 Shoes was an electropop duo formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by John Murphy and Jane Wiedlin. Murphy had previously worked with bands like The Go-Go's and X, while Wiedlin brought her vocal and songwriting background to the partnership. Their sound drew from new wave and synth-pop, with clear nods to artists like David Bowie and Prince.
Their debut single "Turn Me On (Turn Me Out)" came out in 1982 and became their biggest hit, reaching the top 10 in both the US and UK. They followed it with tracks like "Something Kinda Ooooh" and later collaborations including "Wishing On a Star" with JLS and One Direction.
The duo released two albums, 1984's "Two Shoes" and 1986's "Peel," which mixed pop accessibility with more experimental edges. They disbanded in 1988. While their time together was relatively brief, their blend of electronic pop and provocative style left a noticeable imprint on the music that followed.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
