The Welsh rock band 2002 formed in 1995 with Tony Wright on vocals and guitar, Ifan Griffiths on bass, and Geraint Owen on drums. They worked mostly in Welsh, which made them something of an outlier in the local scene at the time. Their debut album, also called '2002', mixed alternative rock with elements of Welsh folk.
Later records like 'Un Deryn yn Canu' and 'Y Gwir' kept that basic shape but let the sound develop. The song 'Cariad' became one of their better-known tracks. They built a following in Wales without much compromise, sticking to their own vision of what Welsh-language rock could be.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
