20AM formed in Istanbul in the early 2000s with Emre Aydın, Gökhan Türkmen, and Ozan Tügen. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2004, mixing acoustic rock and folk with some electronic touches. Tügen left the following year, and Aydın and Türkmen kept going as a duo, putting out their second album Kaçamak in 2006.
Their song 'Ela' from the 2007 album Emanet became their most recognizable track. It's a spare, melodic piece about lost love that connected with listeners across Turkey. After that, they released Haziran in 2012 and Fırtınadayım in 2015.
In 2009, there was some public discussion about their song 'Sözlerimi Geri Alamam' and questions of artistic influence. They kept making music through it, with Aydın handling most of the writing and vocals while Türkmen played multiple instruments.
