24 Hours Ago formed in Los Angeles in 2013 with Ethan Briggs on vocals and guitar, Ryan Campbell on guitar and vocals, Chris Dickie on bass, and Josh Wallace on drums. Their sound drew from the melancholic textures of Radiohead and the atmospheric quality of Sigur Rós, though they never settled neatly into one genre.
Their debut single 'Black Angels with White Shadows' came out in 2015 and became their most recognizable track. It set the tone for what followed, songs like 'Drown You' and 'Midnight Ride' carried that same atmospheric, introspective weight. They released three albums: a self-titled one in 2016, then 'Shadows' in 2018, and 'White Light' in 2020.
Briggs's lyrics often touched on depression and anxiety, which gave their music a raw, personal edge. Some critics found it too dark, but that directness was part of what connected with listeners. The band kept a relatively low profile, letting the music, songs like 'Ouch (it hurts)' and 'Remove Yourself', speak for itself.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
