250 Centavos formed in Santiago, Chile, in 1962. The name translates to '250 Pennies,' which came from the band's early days when they were scraping by. Their lineup included Patricio 'Pato' Carmona on vocals and guitar, Pedro 'Pelao' Valenzuela on bass, and Hernán 'Nano' de Castro on drums.
In 1966, they released 'Con Mis Flores De Papel,' a song that became a hit in Chile. Its lyrics touched on social issues, which sometimes drew criticism from authorities. Another track, 'No Me Importa Mas Nada,' also reflected this straightforward, sometimes political approach.
The band put out albums like '250 Centavos' in 1965 and 'Voces de Protesta' in 1967. They played shows around Chile and Latin America before dissolving in the late 1970s. Patricio Carmona died in 2012 at age 67.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
