2L Mota formed in 2013 in Salvador, Bahia, with Junior Gomes on vocals and guitar, Robson Silva on percussion and vocals, and Patrick Sousa handling keyboards and production. They started as three friends mixing Brazilian rhythms with urban sounds. Their debut album came out in 2017, featuring the track 'Ela Já Vem Jogando Pra Mim,' which gained attention online and helped them reach a wider audience.
That song became something of a viral hit, leading to more albums like 'Deita no Meu Beat' in 2018 and 'Ginga' in 2020. Their music pulls from funk, rap, and pagode, usually with danceable beats and lyrics about everyday situations. They've worked with other Brazilian artists including Wesley Safadão, Ivete Sangalo, and Thiaguinho.
Some of their material drew criticism for explicit content, but they kept making music that reflected their perspective. They built a following in Brazil's urban scene without smoothing out their approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
