2PE formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2016 as a duo with Pedro Lucas and Pedrinho da Serrinha. Their music pulls from pop, funk, and R&B, and they put out a debut album called 'A Nova Era' that showed some of those influences.
In 2018 they released 'Decida-se' with featured singer V. H., which became a breakout track for them. That song and others like 'Migalha Por Migalha' and 'Sem Neurose' helped define their sound. They followed with a second album, 'Fases', which touched on themes of love and self-discovery.
Their lyrics and performances drew some criticism for being explicit, but they kept working. The duo's setup had Lucas on vocals and Pedrinho da Serrinha handling production and instruments.
