3, 2 Único formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1970 with Cléber Santana on vocals and guitar, Claudio da Silveira on bass, and Beto Salgueiro on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1972 and included 'Na Boca da Mata,' which became their best-known song. The track's lyrics drew some criticism at the time for what some heard as references to drug use.
They followed with albums like 'Interlúdio' in 1974, 'O Sufoco' in 1975, and 'Equilíbrio' in 1977. Their sound mixed samba, rock, and jazz, with Santana's writing at the center. Other songs from their catalog include 'Bom Destino,' 'Caldo de Engenho,' and 'Tudo Partiu do Sonho.'
Santana left in 1980 to work solo and was replaced by a singer and guitarist named Cabral. The group kept playing and recording through the 1990s, when they found a new audience. Their recordings have been reissued since.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
