The military band 3 Brigada de Cavalaria Mecanizada formed in 1952 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. They started with basic equipment and limited resources, but gradually developed their sound through regular practice and performance. Their most recognized piece is "Canção da 3ª Brigada C Mec," which became something of an anthem for the unit.
The lyrics of "Canção da 3ª Brigada C Mec" were considered politically sensitive at the time, leading to restrictions on its public performance. Despite this, the song continued to be played within certain circles.
The band recorded several albums over time, including Canção da 3ª Brigada C Mec in 1968, A Saga dos Cavaleiros in 1975, O Brilho da Brigada in 1982, and Cavalo de Aço in 1995. Their music incorporated elements from Brazilian folk traditions alongside military band arrangements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
