3 Days Grace formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1992, originally called Groundswell. The band's self-titled debut album came out in 2003 with Adam Gontier on vocals, Neil Sanderson on guitar, Brad Walst on bass, and Joey Grant on drums. That record included 'I Hate Everything About You' and 'Just Like You,' which became radio staples and helped define their early sound.
Their 2006 album One-X arrived after Gontier had been through rehab, and songs like 'Animal I Have Become' and 'Never Too Late' reflected some of that personal struggle. The band kept recording through the late 2000s and early 2010s, putting out Life Starts Now and Transit of Venus while gradually incorporating more alternative and electronic touches into their hard rock foundation.
In 2013, Gontier left the group and was replaced by Matt Walst, Brad's brother. The shift in vocalists brought some skepticism at first, but the band continued touring and releasing material, including songs like 'Pain,' 'Chalk Outline,' and 'Break.' They've maintained a steady presence in rock radio and festival circuits since the change.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
