3 De Copas formed in Santiago, Chile in 1983 with Roberto Márquez, Miguel Tapia, and Andrés de León. They released their self-titled debut album in 1986, followed by several others including 'El Arbol de la Vida' in 1987 and 'A Veces' in 1988. Their song 'Aferrado' came out in 1988 and became their most recognizable track.
The trio's music centered on romantic themes with intimate harmonies. Songs like 'Amo Mío' and 'Como Quisiera' followed similar patterns of emotional balladry. They continued recording through the 1990s and 2000s, with albums like 'Más Allá' in 1998 and an acoustic release in 2010.
Márquez handled lead vocals and songwriting, while Tapia played guitar and de León played bass. All three contributed vocals to their arrangements. They maintained their three-piece lineup throughout their recording career, which included a 30th anniversary tour in 2013.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
