3 Hurel formed in 1993 when three friends from Istanbul, Erhan Güleryüz, Hakan Altun, and Murat Çekmez, started playing music together. They took their name from the Turkish phrase for "three friends." For several years they performed locally without much attention from record labels, building a following in small venues around the city.
Their first album, "Nakış," came out in 1997 and included the ballad "Ağlarsa Anam Ağlar." That song connected with listeners and helped establish them as a recognizable group in Turkish pop. They followed it with albums like "Dertler Benim Olsun" in 1999 and "Sevenler Ayrılmaz" in 2002, often writing about relationships and emotional themes.
Güleryüz handled most of the vocals and songwriting, Altun played guitar and contributed to writing, and Çekmez was the drummer. They kept recording through the 2000s, putting out "Yüreğimden Gittin" in 2005 and "Ayrılmayalım" in 2008. The group split up in 2011 after nearly two decades together.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
