3ª Ideia formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s around three musicians named Michel, Marquinho, and Thadeu. They started playing together with limited resources, mixing reggae, rock, and samba rhythms. Their songs often dealt with social issues like poverty and inequality, which set them apart from many other Brazilian bands at the time.
In 2003, they released the single "Fazendo a Diferença," which became something of an anthem for social movements in Brazil. The song's success gave them wider recognition and helped them reach larger audiences. They went on to record albums like "Semente do Amanhã" in 2004 and "Voz Ativa" in 2007.
The band collaborated with artists including Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, which connected them to Brazil's established musical traditions while they maintained their own socially engaged approach. Michel, Marquinho, and Thadeu remained the core members through various lineup changes, keeping their focus on music that addressed corruption, injustice, and environmental concerns.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
