3 Quarters Dead formed in Oklahoma City in 1999, led by vocalist Hayze with Jake on guitar, Mosh on bass, and Sam on drums. They put out four albums between 2000 and 2005, starting with '50,000 Watts of Hate' and ending with 'Reborn'. Their sound was heavy and direct, built around breakdowns and Hayze's shifting vocals, which could go from a scream to something quieter.
Songs like 'Cutting Myself' and 'No Stone Unturned' drew criticism from some who felt the lyrics promoted self-harm, though the band said they were just reflecting real pain.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
