3 Soldiers came out of Compton in the early 1990s as a trio: Scoot Boogie, Young Dre, and Mentally Insane. Their first album, "Ruthless by Nature," arrived in 1994. The single "Drugs" from that record drew attention for its direct street narratives, which some critics and authorities found too raw.
They kept putting out albums through the late '90s and early 2000s, including "The Return of the Soldiers" and "No Mercy." The group worked with other West Coast figures like Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. Their sound stayed grounded in the realities they wrote about, without much polish or compromise.
After 2002's "Time to Rise," their output slowed. The three members have kept a lower profile since, but those early records, especially "Ruthless by Nature," still get mentioned when people talk about unfiltered Compton rap from that era.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
