30/4 formed in San Francisco in the late 1990s with members Kurupt, Daz, Soopafly, and Spice 1. Kurupt had already worked with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, while Daz had connections to Warren G. Their debut album, '30/4: The Album,' came out in 1998.
The single 'Gangsta' from that album became their most recognizable track. It had a straightforward, gritty quality that connected with listeners at the time. The group's lyrics often dealt directly with street life.
They released a few more albums like 'Legends' in 2000 and '31/4' in 2004. Their music drew some criticism for its content, and they were involved in legal issues, including a lawsuit over a lyric. The group's output slowed after the mid-2000s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
