31 Centavos formed in 2009 as a trio with Kiko Zambianchi on vocals and guitar, Guto Oliveira on drums, and André Cabelo on bass. Their name, which translates to "31 Cents," came from the modest financial situation they were in when starting out.
In 2011 they put out a debut EP called "Mudei de Vida," and two years later released their first full album, "Mundo de Complicações." The title track from that album became a notable song for them, built around reflective lyrics and a rock sound that drew some attention in Brazil's music landscape.
They've kept at it as a straightforward rock band, playing shows and working within that space without much fanfare about breaking through or changing styles. The music tends to stay grounded in personal themes, delivered without much polish or pretense.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
