34 Spoons formed in Glasgow in the late 1990s, with Greg Campbell writing songs and singing. They started playing in local pubs and clubs. Their music had an indie rock feel with some folk and country touches, and Campbell's lyrics tended toward the introspective.
Their song 'New York Is So Far Away' became something of an anthem for them. Other tracks like 'Boys And Girl' and 'Faceless And Grey' showed their style. They released albums like A Bad Weekend in Hamlyn in 2002 and A Feast of Consequences in 2004, followed by The Shadows We Cast in 2007 and The Heart of the Dark in 2010.
The band included Greg Campbell on vocals and guitar, Robbie Campbell on guitar and vocals, Chris Ward on bass, and Andrew MacKinnon on drums. They drew some criticism for being too inward-looking, but kept putting out records through the 2000s and into the early 2010s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
