38Rimas formed in Lisbon in 2002 with rappers Sam The Kid, Boss AC, and DJ Cruzfader. They started with independent EPs and local gigs, eventually releasing their self-titled debut album in 2005. Their music often addresses social and political themes, sometimes drawing strong reactions. The track 'O Mal do Homem' became particularly known for its pointed criticism of corruption and injustice.
Sam The Kid handles most of the writing and lead vocals, with Boss AC adding energy and DJ Cruzfader providing the beats. Their later albums include 'Sem Medo' from 2008, 'Em Busca do Homem' from 2013, and '100% Coco' from 2016. Another notable song is 'Guerreiro Urbano,' which features Muniz.
They've maintained the same three members since the beginning, which gives their work a consistent feel even as their sound has evolved. Their recordings blend straightforward hip-hop production with lyrics that reflect their view of urban life in Portugal.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
