3º Squema was a Brazilian rock band from Brasília, formed in the early 2000s. The trio included vocalist and guitarist Renato Russo, bassist Tadeu Mathias, and drummer João Barone. Their debut album, "Subir," came out in 2004, with the title track becoming a notable song for them.
Renato Russo's personal struggles with mental illness and drug addiction affected the band's work, leading to darker, more introspective lyrics. This period saw the release of albums like "Selva" in 2006 and "Pequeno Cidadão" in 2009, which continued to draw attention for their raw, personal themes.
The band faced criticism over their music and Russo's outspoken views on social issues, with some accusing them of promoting nihilism. Despite this, they kept recording, putting out "Sobre o Tempo" in 2012. Renato Russo died in 1996, which ended the band's active years, but their music has remained part of Brazil's alternative rock landscape.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
