3rd Great Awakening formed in Boston in 2002 with John J. "JJ" Kramer on vocals and guitar, Joe Orr on lead guitar, Chris Gunn on bass, and Sean Flynn on drums. They put out their first album, "Cheer Up the Lonely," in 2005, followed by "Down the Line" in 2008 and "Visions of the New World" in 2012.
Their song "Liz" came out in 2008. It's a ballad that caught on with listeners, built around a simple, aching melody and lyrics that feel personal and direct.
They were an indie rock band that worked quietly, without much flash or drama. Their music stayed grounded in that four-piece setup, with Kramer's writing at the center.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
