4° do Sebastião formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s. Their music draws from samba, bossa nova, and Brazilian folk rhythms. Their debut album 'Samba de Resistência' included politically charged lyrics that addressed social issues and democracy, which drew criticism from some quarters at the time.
Other songs like 'Ao Norte' and 'Glórias' appear in their catalog. The band's core members have included Jorge Mautner on vocals and lyrics, Nelson Ângelo on guitar, Arnolfo Lima on bass, and Ruy Faria on drums.
Over time their sound incorporated elements of jazz, funk, and African rhythms. They've released more than twenty albums. Their work has been noted for addressing social justice themes within Brazilian music traditions.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
