40 Second Sabbatical, often shortened to 40 SLS, came out of London's hardcore scene in the early 2000s. Their debut album 'A Traitor's Dedication' arrived in 2003, mixing hardcore aggression with some atmospheric touches.
Later records like 'Sahara' from 2006 and 'The Cure for Silence' from 2009 brought in more metal, industrial, and ambient textures. The band's lineup included Lazarus on vocals, Hades on guitar, Erebus on bass, and Thanatos on drums.
Their lyrics often dealt with alienation and darker themes, which sometimes drew criticism. Their live shows were known for being intense, and they worked with musicians from bands like Napalm Death, Godflesh, and Sepultura.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
