40 (Forty) formed in Seoul in 2014, led by vocalist and songwriter Ha Hyunsang. Their debut single 'Sing The Spring' found an audience with its acoustic folk feel and melancholic pop sensibility. The band's first EP was simply titled '40.'
They followed with seasonal releases like 'Summer,' 'Fall,' and 'Winter,' exploring themes of love and nature while gradually incorporating rock and R&B elements. The core lineup has included bassist Lee Hyunseung, drummer Lee Kyunghoon, and guitarist-keyboardist Lee Sejin alongside Ha Hyunsang.
In 2017, Ha Hyunsang faced a legal dispute with his former label over music rights, which affected the band's momentum. They've worked with artists like Lee So-ra and Crush on collaborations. Their songs have appeared in Korean dramas and films.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
