40ozfliers came out of South Central Los Angeles in the early 2000s, a group built around rappers Kash and Trouble. Their music dealt plainly with the violence and struggle around them, and their track "Murdertown" became a kind of street anthem in LA. They put out a self-titled debut album in 2002.
Their lyrics were blunt about drugs and crime, which drew criticism and occasional police attention. In 2005, their label Madhouse Records was raided by the FBI, an event that stalled their work for a while. The group kept going with shifting lineups, but Kash and Trouble stayed at the center of it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
