44 Long came out of Los Angeles in the early 2000s with a rock sound that had some soul in it. Their first album was called 'Fall Off the Wagon,' which came out in 2003. The title track from that record got some attention for how it handled addiction and recovery.
The band had Johnny Righteous on vocals, Billy Bones on guitar, Chris Fats on bass, and Mike Thunder on drums. Righteous had a strong voice, and the group played with a lot of energy. After that first album, they put out a couple more records, including one called 'Redemption' and another called 'Fire & Blood.'
Righteous had some public struggles with substance abuse around that time, including an arrest in 2005. He later got into advocacy work around addiction recovery. The band's music, especially that early material, still finds listeners who connect with it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
