45 Graus formed in Porto Alegre in 1981, with Bebeto Alves on vocals, Chico Gomes on guitar, and Gilmar Ballesteros on bass. Their debut album came out in 1983, and the song "Adeus" from that record became their most recognizable track. They kept recording through the 1980s, putting out albums like "A Lenda do Guri" in 1985 and "Trem da Vida" in 1990.
Their sound pulled from rock and pop alongside Brazilian rhythms, and they worked with other musicians like Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso. The band's lineup shifted at times, with Carlos Farias joining on keyboards and accordion. They stopped playing together in 1996, but songs like "Amar Não é Perder" and "Em Forma de Paixão" still get played on Brazilian radio.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
