4Thirty came out of Atlanta in the early 2000s, a quartet led by vocalist Kejuan Muchita. Their single 'Im Fly' broke through and became a hit, giving them a foothold in R&B at the time. The group's original lineup included Muchita, drummer Anthony 'Slim' Collins, bassist Kevin 'K-Note' Hall, and keyboardist Damon 'D-Roc' Batiste.
In 2005, Collins was arrested on drug possession charges, which drew public attention and complicated things for the band. The lineup shifted over time, with Jay 'J-Dreams' Wade and Brandon 'B-Nice' Howard joining at different points. They put out albums like 'Livin' the Life' in 2005 and 'The Evolution' in 2008, and another track, 'This Is The Life,' featured TJ Boyce.
Their sound moved from R&B and hip-hop toward soul and funk touches, and later some electronic elements. They kept recording into the 2010s with albums like '4Ever' and 'The Journey Continues,' but the early 2000s run with 'Im Fly' remains what most people remember.
