5 Bugs were an alternative rock band best known for their 2003 single "45 Seconds of Kick Ass." The track became something of an anthem in certain circles, a high-energy burst that gave the group its initial momentum. They followed it with songs like "A Secret Left to Find" and "Just Another Tragic Story," which appeared on their debut album "Self-Destruct" in 2005.
The band's lineup included Rico Fatale on vocals and guitar, Sara "Spider" Summers on drums, Max "The Machine" Myers on bass, Jake "The Alchemist" Thompson on guitar, and Emily "The Butterfly" Winters on keyboards and vocals. They released a second album called "Renaissance" in 2007, which leaned into more experimental territory. Winters left the group the following year for personal reasons.
Their later work included the 2010 album "Phoenix." The band faced some internal difficulties, including creative disputes with their label and public criticism of some lyrical content. They never quite recaptured the immediate impact of "45 Seconds of Kick Ass," but that song remained their calling card.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
