5 Raízes came out of Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s. Their debut single "Com Você Eu Transo" got attention quickly, mixing funk and rap with Brazilian rhythms and lyrics that didn't shy away from much. The band's frontman was Zé Brown.
They put out albums like "Armagedom" in 2001 and "A Vida Real" in 2003. Another track, "Me Desvencilhar," shows their style.
Over time the lineup changed. At one point it included Marco Lobo on bass, Rodrigo Braga on guitar, Felipe Pimenta on drums, and DJ Cesinha on turntables alongside Brown. They kept playing and recording into the 2000s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
