5 Semanas formed in 1984 with four teenage friends: Fábio Liberti, Riki Vouten, Digão, and Milton Guedes. Their debut album 'Aprendendo a Viver' came out in 1986, and its title track became an anthem for Brazilian youth. The band's lyrics and stage presence drew some criticism from conservative quarters at the time.
After Fábio Liberti left in 1990, Luciano Maia joined as vocalist. Through the 1990s, their sound incorporated more pop, funk, and reggae elements. They reunited with Liberti for a concert in 2000, and released the album 'Retratos' the following year.
Songs like 'Até O Fim' and 'É Com Você Que Eu Quero Estar' show their melodic rock style. The band's lineup has included both Liberti and Maia on vocals at different periods.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
