The band 52nd Street formed in New York City in 1977 with Billy Joel on lead vocals and piano, Liberty DeVitto on drums, Doug Stegmeyer on bass, and Russell Javors on guitar. They released their self-titled debut album the following year.
In 1980, they put out the ballad "Tell Me (How It Feels)." The song became their most recognizable track. The band released four studio albums during their active years: 52nd Street (1978), Changes (1979), Kid Stuff (1980), and A-19 (1980).
Javors and Stegmeyer left the group in 1981. The band's recorded output ended around that time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
