60 Megahertz formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1985 with Alexandre Bóia on vocals, Antônio 'Tortell' Martins on guitar, Maurício 'Macarrão' Pereira on bass, and Marcelo Périgo on drums. They released their debut album 'A Culpa É Sua' in 1989, and the title track became a hit in Brazil.
In 1990, the band faced accusations of plagiarizing 'A Culpa É Sua' from the British group The Beloved. They denied the claims, and the matter was eventually resolved. Their lyrics often addressed topics like religion and politics, which drew both criticism and attention.
They went on to release several more albums including 'Popstar' in 1993, 'O Mundo Não É Tão Triste' in 1996, and 'Deixa Eu Rir' in 2000. Another song, 'Me Deixe Aqui,' also appears among their popular tracks. The same four members remained the core of the band through these recordings.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
