616 Jeff formed in São Paulo in 2008, with Rodrigo Ferreira on vocals and guitar, André Lima on bass and synths, and Pedro Garcia on drums. Their name comes from the Portuguese phrase '616 Jeito,' which means '616 Ways.' They put out their first album in 2010, followed by others like 'Tremor' in 2014 and 'Tudo Que Vai Volta' in 2017.
Their music mixes electronic beats with indie rock, and Ferreira's vocals have a strained, anxious quality. Songs like '99' Pânico (remix)' and 'Narciso (Admiro o Sangue Em Meu Reflexo No Espelho)' show their tendency toward dark, introspective lyrics.
They've sometimes drawn attention for provocative material. '99' Pânico (remix)' was a critique of Brazilian politics that led to some debate and attempts to censor it. Their work stays within that electronic-rock blend, with later albums including 2020's simply titled '6.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
