650north is a band from Los Angeles formed around vocalist and guitarist Rachel Mendez and bassist Matthew Mullins. They started writing and recording together, and their debut single "Just a Picture" came out in 2009. The song was inspired by a faded photograph and memories of a lost love, with Mendez writing the lyrics.
"Just a Picture" got some attention for its haunting melody and Mendez's vocals. After that, they put out albums like "A Line in the Sand" in 2011, "Polaroids" in 2013, and "We Were Giants" in 2015. Other songs in their catalog include "Blissful Ignorance," "Comfortable," and "Goodbye."
The band's lineup has included keyboardist Chris Stinson alongside Mendez and Mullins. Their sound tends toward the melancholic and introspective, which drew some criticism along with its fans.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
