69 Nombres formed in Mexico City in 1999 as an experimental rock collective. The band included Adrián de la Garza on vocals, José Alfredo de la Garza on guitar and bass, and Jesús Miranda on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2000, which mixed rock with electronic and pre-Hispanic elements.
Their 2004 album 'Espiral' featured the song of the same name, which became something of an anthem for their listeners. Other tracks like 'Malosa' and 'Tiempo' show their range across their catalog. Their lyrics often dealt with personal and sometimes difficult subjects, which drew criticism from some quarters but connected with their audience.
The band put out several albums through the 2000s, including 'Epílogo' in 2002 and 'Remedio' in 2006, before disbanding in 2010. Their music maintains a following among listeners drawn to their particular blend of rock experimentation and direct lyrical approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
